Issue Position: Protecting Religious Freedom

Issue Position

I would protect the 1rst Amendment Right to Freedom of Religion and oppose any legislation restricting the practice of or trampling on the rights of those practicing their religions. There is legislation out there that supports removing the church's tax exemption if they get involved with politics. A church teaches values from the bible or whatever the religions book uses. These values are taught in a way to be used in everyday life and how to evaluate situations. It should also include how to evaluate legislation in terms of the church's values. A church's tax exemption should not be put at risk because they compare values and policies. I oppose H.R.5 - Equality Act.

The California Legislature is trying to trample on our first amendment rights to freedom of religion by pressuring pastors to operate the way they want them to in regard to how they counsel the LGBTQ community. I oppose ACR-99 Civil rights: lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender people. If a bill like this ever passes in California, I would help press this case to the Supreme Court to strike it down as no government is to create a law that infringes on our 1st amendment right to freedom of religion.
